Anti-Bullying Week is different from other awareness initiatives we’ve looked at so far. For one, it’s over the course of a week, rather than a month. Additionally, Anti-Bullying Week originated in and is most recognized in the United Kingdom. In spite of these differences, it’s of growing prominence in the United States, and it deserves to be continued to be talked about.

Anti-Bullying Week was created in 2004 by the Anti-Bullying Alliance of England. It takes place every third week of November, meaning it falls from the 11th to the 15th this year. Furthermore, Anti-Bullying Week has a theme each year (similar to the previously discussed Mental Health Month). The 2024 theme is “Choose Respect” and is meant to emphasize that there are little things you can do to create large, positive impacts. It was chosen by students and teachers across the UK in order to foster a more supportive environment.

There are many ways to become involved with Anti-Bullying Week. The Anti-Bullying Alliance has free resource packs that allow for individuals to spread awareness of the week in their community. Participating on social media with the #ANTIBULLYINGWEEK is another great way to become involved. Lastly, pledging support through the Anti-Bullying Alliance can help your school become a part of the movement.

It goes without saying that bullying can be a source of physical and emotional challenges in children and teens alike. Therefore, although Anti-Bullying Week is not directly about mental health, it very much falls under the umbrella of well-being. We believe that it — like all of the other topics we have covered — deserves to be recognized and expanded across the United States.
